Dallas Reed Brehm, one of six children of Willard Franklin and Gladys (West) Brehm, was born on a farm near Talmage, Nebraska on April 7, 1942. Dallas attended rural school through the 8th grade and graduated from Talmage High School. He attended Peru State College after high school.
In June of 1963 Dallas was united in marriage to Carolyn Dieckhoff at Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Johnson, Nebraska. They lived first in Lincoln and then returned to rural Nemaha County to make their home. The couple was blessed with two children, Michelle and Curtis.
While in Lincoln, Dallas worked in the design department of the Nebraska Department of Roads. After moving home, he took up farming. He of course raised crops, but the favorite part of his career was as a pork producer.
Dallas had been a member of the Auburn Country Club and the Auburn Eagles Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, fishing, and in his earlier years loved to hunt.
Carolyn passed away suddenly on March 14, 2010, and Dallas suffered various health problems following her death. He was admitted to UNMC-Clarkson Hospital in early December of 2012, and it was there he passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at the age of 70 years, 8 months, and 2 days. In addition to his wife Carolyn, Dallas was preceded in death by his father Willard, brother Charlie, and brothers-in-law Jack Hill, George Winner, Arnold Dieckhoff, and Vern Dieckhoff.
Surviving Dallas are his daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Steve Mathiesen; son Curtis; grandchildren Mitchell Elliott, Michael and Darby Mathiesen; mother Gladys Brehm; sisters and brother-in-law Ann Winner; Jean and Gary Shelstad; brothers and sisters-in-law Lyle and Kathy Brehm; Jim and Lorraine Brehm; sisters-in-law Judy Brehm; Eleanor and husband Larry Hart; Sharon and husband Jim Gnade; Linda and husband Roger Vogel; Sharon Dieckhoff; Carol Dieckhoff; brother-in-law Ralph and wife Donna Dieckhoff; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 14, 11:00 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Visitation is Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00. Cremation will follow the services.
