Clayton Caroll Anderson, one of three children of Wendell and Marion Anderson, was born May 3, 1966, in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. He was confirmed at Warwick Lutheran Church and attended school through 8th grade in Warwick, North Dakota. Transferring to Devil’s Lake for 9th and 10th grades, Clayton later earned his GED and attended trade school in Devil’s Lake to become certified in auto mechanics and welding.
In June of 1987, Clayton married Rochelle Fisk. They were blessed with a daughter, Allison, and lived for a time in Fargo. The family moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 1993 to make their home. Clayton and Rochelle later divorced but always remained friends.
In his younger years Clayton enjoyed working on the farm. He later worked at the Post Office in Devil’s Lake. After his schooling he worked as an auto mechanic in Fargo and then in Auburn before becoming a welding supervisor at Auburn Consolidated Industries. For the last 30 years, Clayton continued his love for farming and doing mechanical work as needed.
Clayton was an outdoors type and loved fishing, hunting, and mushroom hunting. He held memberships with the NRA, Pheasants Forever, Whitetails Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. Indoors he was well known for his prowess at shooting pool and throwing darts. With his mechanical background, he was always willing to tinker with friends’ cars when asked for help.
Clayton was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon cancer in January of 2022 and battled the disease for almost 3 years. On Tuesday, the 29th of October he was released from the hospital to return to his home in Auburn to be cared for by his family as well as hospice care beginning on the 31st. Surrounded by family, Clayton passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the age of 58 years and 6 months. His mother Marion preceded him in death.
Those who remember Clayton’s mischievous smile, love, and free spirit include his daughter Allison (Brandon) Sullwold; father Wendell Anderson; brother Marty (Cleasa) Anderson; sister Brenda (Pat) Jacobsen; former wife Rochelle (Pat) Collins; one niece, four nephews, four great-nieces and four great-nephews, and his beloved dog Snickers.
