Christopher Thomas Hayes, the second of five boys born to Martin and Allison Hayes, was born December 26, 1973, in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Chris enjoyed fishing and playing sports growing up. He attended Brownville Elementary School through the 8th grade before attending Auburn High School and graduating in 1992. During school, Chris participated in football, basketball, track, and played Legion baseball in the summers. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
After high school, Chris attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln for one year. He enjoyed bowling, playing softball, and attending sporting events, especially Nebraska Cornhusker football and basketball games and the College World Series. Chris won many trophies for his efforts in bowling competitions. He also enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his many nieces and nephews. One of Chris’s favorite accomplishments was being a part of the championship team of the Brownville Historical Society Golf Classic. In January of 2013, Chris received a diploma in Security/Police Sciences from Stratford Career Institute.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 17, 2013, near Hamburg, Iowa, Chris was involved in an accident that took his life. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Thomas and Delphine Hayes and William and Faye Furnas. Chris will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity.
Chris is survived by his parents Martin and Allison Hayes of Brownville; brothers and sisters-in-law Martin, Jr. and Andrea Hayes of Omaha; Daniel and Nikki Hayes of Brock; William and Sena Hayes of Nebraska City; Robert Hayes and Shelli Eyman of Murray; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
