Charlie "Paw" Garcia

Charles Edwin Garcia, son of Roland Patrick and Pearl Ann (Nunez) Garcia, was born May 12, 1933 in Slidell, Louisiana. He attended public school in Slidell and received his GED.

Charles joined the United States Navy in November of 1950, and served during the Korean War. He received his honorable discharge in March of 1954.

On October 21, 1951, Charles married Rose Marie Coty in Bremer, Washington. They would be blessed with six children, and made their home in Slidell after Charles’ service to his country.

Charles served for many years as a river captain on the Mississippi River. After retiring and living in Slidell for a time, he and Rose moved to Auburn, Nebraska in 2006 to be near his grandson.

Although he only lived in Auburn for 10 years, Charles made many friends in the community through his knack for conversation and his likable nature.

Charles was admitted to the Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln in October of 2016. It was there he passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 22 days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, and a sister.

Those left to remember his loving ways include his wife Rose of Auburn, five children, 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, other relatives and friends.
