Charles Chandler

 Charles Edward Chandler was born May 31, 1940, to William and Esther (Harms) Chandler in Salem, Nebraska. He was the first of four brothers. Charles passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn.

 Charles attended grade school in Verdon and Dawson, Nebraska, and graduated from Humboldt High School with the Class of 1959. He participated in basketball and was known for making a half-court shot for his team. Charles’ 4-H calf Homer won a ribbon at the county fair, and he was also active in FFA.

 Being raised on the farm, he and his brothers helped with the milking and in the fields. Charles attended mechanics school in Omaha before working for Johnson Motors in Auburn, Nebraska. He was a certified GM mechanic and named a national Outstanding Chevrolet Employee. Working at H and H Transmission in Lincoln and repairing farm machinery in Stansberry, Missouri completed his career. 

 On June 28, 1981, Charles wed Kathy Winstead in Westboro, Missouri. They made their home in Auburn and then Gilman, Missouri. They enjoyed square dancing and round dancing, which was part of their wedding reception. Their garden provided them with many fresh vegetables. Kathy died October 15, 2007.

 Red toy tractors were a favorite of his. There were a few green ones, too.

Charles became a resident of Good Samaritan Society-Auburn in 2020, where he enjoyed participating in activities and visiting with other residents and visitors.

 Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers Gary and Darrell. He is survived by his brother Allen and wife Linda of Omaha; sister-in-law Yvonne Chandler of Auburn; sister-in-law Darla and husband David Owen of St. Joseph, MO; special friends Dave and Becky Dolezal, Toni Dunagan; other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 15, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn.  Family will greet friends on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home.   Burial will follow in Center Grove Cemetery near Westboro, MO.
