Carroll Eugene Reeves, one of five children of Daniel and Edith Reeves, was born February 8, 1940 in Auburn, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm near Peru, Nebraska, attending the one-room Honey Creek country school near his home and graduating from Peru Prep in 1958.
On June 4, 1961 Carroll was united in marriage to Marcia B. Allgood at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn by Pastor Rathkamp. They made their home near the farm where he grew up, and were blessed with two sons, Kevin and Kip.
Carroll?s interest was always in farming and livestock. In order to buy the land he needed and build his herd, he worked 17 years on the Missouri River for the Corps of Engineers. During this time he farmed and took care of his cattle in the evenings, on weekends, and whenever he was off the river. This work ethic eventually allowed him to fulfill his dream of farming and raising cattle full time. Carroll and Marcia eventually built a home on the place where he was raised.
A simple man, Carroll needed only home, work, and family to make him happy. His three granddaughters Jessica, McKinsie, and Sydnie were the loves of his life, and he showed a seldom seen side of himself when he was with them.
On Wednesday, April 13, 2011, Carroll passed away in the course of doing what he loved, sowing seed in the field. He had reached the age 71 years, 2 months, and 5 days. Carroll?s father Daniel preceded him in death.
Carroll is survived by his wife Marcia of rural Peru; sons Kevin Reeves of Denver, CO; Kip and wife Autumn Reeves of Brownville; granddaughters Jessica Reeves, McKinsie Reeves, and Sydnie Reeves; mother Edith Reeves of Auburn; brothers Larry and wife Linda Reeves of Texas; Richard and wife Sharon Reeves of Nebraska City; Jerry and wife Nancy Reeves of Nebraska City; sister Beverly and husband Gary Perry of Peru; other relatives and many friends.
