Carolyn Esther Brehm, daughter of Fritz and Esther (Meyer) Dieckhoff, was born March 26, 1945 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Martin Luther Lutheran Church near Johnson, Nebraska. Carolyn attended Hawthorne School District #30, and graduated from Elk Creek High School in 1963.
On June 22, 1963 Carolyn was united in marriage to Dallas Brehm at Martin Luther Church. Two children, Michelle and Curtis, were born to this union. Carolyn and Dallas lived near Johnson for the 46 years of their married life together.
Carolyn had worked at the Sun Mart grocery store in Auburn, Nebraska as well as the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn, but her favorite career was working as a substitute rural mail carrier out of the Johnson Post Office.
Carolyn was a member of the Auburn Country Club, and she loved to golf and play bridge.
As Carolyn and Dallas were travelling to Joplin, Missouri, she suddenly became ill and passed away at Horton Community Hospital in Horton, Kansas on Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the age of 64 years, 11 months, and 16 days. Also passed are her parents, brothers Arnold and LaVern, brother-in-law Charlie Brehm, and father-in-law Willard Brehm.
Carolyn is survived by her husband Dallas; daughter Michelle (Steve) Mathiesen; son Curtis (special friend Betty Summerlyn); grandchildren Mitch, Michael, and Darby; Betty?s children Kathy, Michael, and Carissa; sisters Eleanor (Larry) Hart, Sharon (Jim) Gnade, Linda (Roger) Vogel, brothers Ralph (Donna) Dieckhoff, sisters-in-law Sharon Dieckhoff, Carol Dieckhoff, Ann Winner, Judy Brehm, Jean (Gary) Shelstead, brothers-in-law Lyle (Kathy) Brehm, Jim (Lorraine) Brehm; mother-in-law Gladys Brehm; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, and friends.
Carolyn?s wishes were to be an organ and tissue donor, and then to be cremated. A memorial gathering will be Saturday, April 17, 10:30 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn, officiated by Pastor Carla Patterson.
