Betty Jane (Sherman) Falls was born January 24, 1950 in Stella, Nebraska. She was one of three children of Wilbur and LaVerna (Feighner) Sherman. Betty attended school in Stella and Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School.
In addition to her duties as homemaker and mother, Betty had several jobs outside the home through the years. She had worked at SENCA, the Pamida store in Auburn, and as a vendor manager with WIC Program. She then served as a bookkeeper with her brother’s Sherman Feed Store in Auburn.
On June 22, 1989 Betty was united in marriage to John Falls in Los Angeles, California. They made their home in rural Brock and then Johnson, Nebraska.
When she had spare time, Betty enjoyed crafting, gardening and canning her produce. Her favorite activity, however, was being with her grandkids.
Health problems had been a longtime concern for Betty. In April of 2019 she entered Tabitha Hospice Care. With her husband and other family members at her side and help from professionals, she was able to remain at her home in Johnson. It was at home, on Friday, May 10, 2019, she passed away at the age of 69 years, 3 months, and 16 days. Her parents and sister-in-law Mary Sherman preceded her in death.
Betty is survived by her husband John of Johnson; son John Adams of Dallas, TX; daughters Teresa Buttler of Beatrice, Mary Bridger of Johnson; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Bill Sherman and Bob Sherman, both of Auburn; many other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Betty's Life will be Thursday, May 16, 11:00 a.m. at Hemmingsen Funeral Home in Auburn. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00. Burial of ashes will be at a later date at Bedford Cemetery near Howe.
