Betty Jean Bohling

Betty Jean (Hahn) Bohling, one of two children of Elmer J. and Frieda (Goering) Hahn, was born October 7, 1928, on the family farm north of Johnson. Betty was baptized in November of 1928 and confirmed in 1942, both in Talmage by Rev. Seybold. Betty also attended school in Talmage and graduated with the class of 1946 from Talmage High School.

On March 30, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Rudolph Bohling at Johnson. The couple would be blessed with four children: Gailen, Lonny, Robbie, and Larinda. Betty helped Rudolph on their dairy farm and played the role of farmer’s wife. She also worked for a time at the Johnson Grocery store and Pamida in Auburn.

After marriage, Betty became a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson. She belonged to the St. Matthew WELCA, the Legion Auxiliary, and the Eagles Club. Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards and volunteering for the Johnson Rag.

Betty always looked forward to hosting holiday family meals and was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls and coffee cake. She loved spending time with family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

When she was no longer able to stay at home, Betty moved to the Good Samaritan Society-Auburn. It is there that she passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, having reached the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 2 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Rudolph, brother Dwight Hahn, and great-granddaughter Keely Murphy.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children and their spouses Gailen and Mary of Auburn, Lonny and Janice of Papillion, Robbie and Janet of Johnson, Larinda Christensen of Ashland; grandchildren Trevor (Kailey) Bohling, Kyle (Laura) Bohling, Courtney (Sean) Murphy, Trenton (Ashton) Bohling, Chelsea Christensen, Hans Christensen, Gracelyn Bohling; great grandchildren Theodore Bohling, Lucy, Henry, and Jack Bohling, McKenna, Kellen, and Calihan Murphy, Brooks and Karsyn Bohling; sister-in-law Betty Hahn of Sioux Falls, SD; other relatives and friends.



A funeral service will be Monday, November 14, 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home in Auburn Sunday noon to 6:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 4:00 to 6:00.
