Avis Louise (Marshall) Neemann, one of eight children of George and Rosena (Badberg) Marshall, was born December 20, 1925 on the family farm near Tecumseh, Nebraska. She attended Charter Oak Christian Church in Talmage, Nebraska, and went to country school close to her home. Avis graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1943 and worked for the railroad.
Avis was married to Merlin Neemann, and they were blessed with four children: Steve, Jan, Mike, and Sue. Avis raised the family on a farm near Talmage, and helped with the farm work as well. After the children were grown she and Merlin moved into Talmage to live and later divorced.
Avis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Talmage, where she took part in the Women’s Auxiliary and church choir. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.
In 2003 Avis moved to a home in Nebraska City, Nebraska next door to her daughter Sue. She lived there for 10 years until her health began to fail. Avis became a resident of The Ambassador in Nebraska City in April of 2013. There she spent her time playing Bingo with friends and watching the old shows on TV.
After being rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City, Avis passed away there on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 6 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Melvin, Leland, and Leo Marshall; and sisters Lucille Ragon, Bernice Adams, and Norma Armknecht.
Those left to remember her fondly are her children and spouses Steve and Jolene Neemann of Beaver Lake; Jan and Ken Teten of Auburn; Mike and Judy Neemann of Lorton; Sue and Roger Rice of Nebraska City; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); sister Lois Bohlken of Brock; sister-in-law Helen Marshall of Denton, TX; many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 1, 10:30 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Talmage. Burial will follow in the Grant Evergreen Cemetery near Talmage. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends 6:00 to 8:00.
